By KEVIN GILLESPIE Posted Feb 09, 2018 05:07:10A blockbuster movie from a veteran director will open this week in the nation’s capital, with the film about the 1980s gold mining industry being called The New Gold Mine.
The $40 million film starring Matthew McConaughey and Will Ferrell stars Gary Oldman as a New England mining company owner who is forced to flee a mining operation run by his ex-wife and their three children after his son is killed by a rogue mineworker.
The family eventually moves back to California, where they have a new baby.
Director Matt Tolmach, whose 2010 film A Beautiful Mind earned a Golden Globe nomination, is developing the film for Universal Pictures, which has signed on as producer.
The film is set for a Feb. 11 release.
“The film has a really unique story, but it’s also very human and incredibly well-told,” Tolmakch said in a statement.
“A Beautiful Mind was a really important film for us and it’s a film that will resonate with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.”
